In an attempt to dismiss the talks of factionalism within the party and sending a message of unity, the former chief minister and AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot stated that all leaders will put up a united front to fight the upcoming Rajasthan assembly election. He also reiterated that he never aspired for a post except once.

Gehlot was talking to scribes post the high tea which he held in honour of former President Pratibha Patil at his residence. It appeared more of a show of strength than a breaking bread event as most of the senior leaders, the old guards of the party, assembled at his residence.

“We will fight the next election unitedly and we will win,” replied Gehlot. He also mentioned that it was only in 1977 that he asked for a ticket. “Post this, I never demanded anything. In future, I will not demand anything from the party. It’s party not the post that is my priority,” said Gehlot.

The former CM flayed Raje government for ‘killing’ ambitious projects- Jaipur Metro and Barmer Refinery- which were launched by him in his previous stint as the CM. He even took a jibe on the Prime minister Narendra Modi for taking credit of the refinery project and demanded a white paper on it from him.

“The white paper would bare all facts and figures on who was right and who is wrong now,” Gehlot said, adding that Raje government was not giving details of MoU inked on refinery even under the RTI (Right to Information).

“Modi is PM of the nation and not of any political party. It was not an election campaign that he spoke like this in the Parliament on Wednesday,” Gehlot said, “Such a language was heard for the first time in the country from
a PM. It shows that he is guilt conscious, so is Vasundhara Raje. I pity them,” said Gehlot.

He underscored that had the refinery started in the last four years of the Raje rule, thousands of unemployed would have got jobs and smaller industries related to petrochemicals might have surfaced in
Barmer.

Pilot skips high tea

Barring RPCC president Sachin Pilot, most veteran Congress leaders, including NN Meena, Brijkishore Sharma, Virendra Beniwal and Jitendra Singh were present at the high tea which was held by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in honour of the former President Pratibha Patil at his residence. It appeared more of a show of strength than a breaking bread event.
