Swine flu strikes back in Jodhpur; 9 dead, department cancels staff leave

So far, 290 H1N1 positive cases have been reported in the division; hospitals start 24x7 OPD

With the increase in cold conditions in the state, swine flu has staged a comeback. 

After the outbreak of the virus in Jodhpur district which lead to deaths, the Medical College administration in the district sprung into action and cancelled holidays of all the medical workers here. 

In Jodhpur division, 290 swine flu positive cases have been reported while nine  people have died due to swine flu since the past one week. The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that four residents of Baiji ka Talab in Jalori Gate area of Jodhpur city have succumbed to swine flu so in past one week.

Dr SS Rathore, Principal and Controller of Medical College informed that 24x7 swine flu OPD has been started with immediate effect at the Mathuradas Mathur Hospital. Due to increase in the number of swine flu patients, arrangements have been made to increase 48 beds in separate wards of the hospital with medicine ward getting 8 beds, 8 in acute care ward, 12 beds in female medical ward, 8 in general ward and 12 beds in the isolation ward of MDMH. In this way, 48 beds have been arranged. Rathore said that due to the seriousness of swine flu, leaves of all the medical workers have been cancelled.

A total of 40 beds have been increased in Mahatama Gandhi Hospital and instructions have been given to the superintendent of the three hospitals of the district to daily monitor swine flu patients, medicine supplies and other logistics.  

A review meeting of condition of swine flu patients and logistics is being held every second day by the Principal and the Administrator of the hospital. 

In order to take care of the patients admitted in swine flu ward, arrangements are being made by the ward physicians and other department heads and their teams. 

The principal said that more than 30,000 Tamiflu tablets are available for swine flu patients while there are 39 ventilators available for the care of serious patients.

A public awareness programme has been organised on January 3 at the Umaid Hospital for the prevention and awareness about swine flu by Dr SN Medical College.  CMHO Dr Sunil Bistt informed that  21 patients have been found to be swine flu be positive on Wednesday when testing of 34 patients was held. The condition of one patient is critical in the city after swine flu made a comeback in the city.
