Two medical students of the SMS Medical College and a computer operator of Zanana Hospital, Sanganeri Gate, have been tested positive for swine flu on Thursday. These three new swine flu cases in health institutions, a couple of days after 7 trainee RAS officers at Officers Training School (OTS) found positive for the respiratory disease, have left health department on its toes.

“Two first-year MBBS students at the VK Menon hostel of SMS Medical College have tested positive for the virus Influenza A (H1N1),” Dr VK Mathur, Director, Public Health, said. “After the confirmation, a team was sent to the hostel, which screened 450 students. As many as 24 students, who were found with suspected symptoms of swine flu, were administered tamiflu tablets. A team also has been sent to Zanana Hospital because a computer operator also tested positive for swine flu at the hospital,” Dr Mathur added.

The influenza A (H1N1) is continuously presenting a challenge to health authorities in the state this year as it has already changed its strain in Rajasthan. As per the official data from the health department between December 1 and 21, total 141 people have been tested positive for H1N1 , and 14 people have died due to it. This year, from January 1 to December 20, swab samples of total 11,929 people were tested, of which 3,344 have been found swine flu positive and 259 have died due to respiratory disease. Meanwhile, training of newly-appointed RAS officers at OTS was postponed on Thursday as seven trainee RAS officers were found swine flu positive in the last two days.
