The city registered 60 swine flu cases since January 1, and of these, a whopping 17 patients have died. The swine flu menace in Jodhpur is taking a big toll, especially among children.

During the last four days, three children have tested positive for swine flu. They include kids of the ages four, five and six. Besides children, pregnant women are also vulnerable to the virus.

Despite this alarming trend this year, the state’s health department has failed to tame the menace. Officials in the medical and health administration are in a slumber and are paying little heed to the outbreak. Almost everyday, new cases are being registered in Jodhpur.

Recently, three new patients were found to be swine flu positive in Mathuradas Mathur Hospital. Among the new victims is an assistant professor of the radio therapy department of the hospital.

Ten samples were sent for examination to the microbiology lab last Monday. Among them, three were found to be positive. Besides the professor (56), they also included a 56-year-old male patient, who is a resident of the Ratananda area and a 48-year-old man from Chopasni housing board area. They are now in the isolation ward of Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.
