More than 78 lakh houses across the state were screened in a door-to-door screening campaign for seasonal diseases like dengue, chikungunya and malaria including swine flu by the health department.
The three-day long campaign, ‘Swasthya Dal Aapke Dwar’ (health team at your doorstep), was carried out from March 21 to 23, to conduct prevention and public awareness activities across the state.
It is worth mentioning that during the initial two-and-half months this year, total 860 people were tested dengue positive and one death occurred due to vector-borne disease. Swine flu, on the other hand has claimed 107 deaths so far while more than 1,250 people have been tested swine flu positive.
Health minister Kalicharan Saraf said that more than 78 lakh houses were covered during the campaign. “This was the biggest door-to-door survey and intensive screening and consultation drive ever conducted for preventing the spread of dengue, malaria and swine flu in the state,”said Saraf. “During the campaign for prevention and public awareness, 99,784 health teams visited 78,09,800 houses across the state to conduct door-to-door survey and create awareness about seasonal and vector-borne disease. During the campaign, around 5, 90,000 drinking water places were treated with temephos and fogging was conducted at more than 1.15 lakh places,” he added.
During the campaign, people diagnosed with symptoms of these diseases were given medicines and advised to go for further check-up. Apart from houses, the teams also visited 8,107 schools where more than 2.65 lakh students were screened. In a similar way around 65,000 students were screened during the visit of 1,725 hostels.
The state health department was joined by local bodies, department of WCD and Panchayati Raj department who showed active participation in the campaign.
For effective and successful execution of the drive, students from nursing colleges were also included in the campaign.
