The Supreme Court has dismissed the application filed by Rajasthan Roadways for Volvo Scania buses to continue to ply upto Bikaner House. This means that now these buses cannot ply till Bikaner House and Rajasthan Roadways will have to find another place in Delhi for operating this service.

The Rajasthan Roadways officials are however saying that any action on the court decision can be taken only when the court order is received. In its order on March 26, Supreme Court had ordered that the buses plying from Bikaner House will stop from May 1. If the legal order which will arrive in coming days states that buses cannot operate at Bikaner House, than roadways may have to explore other places.

The court had in its earlier hearing in the first week of March given 3 weeks time to Rajasthan government to file affidavit over movement of passenger buses from Bikaner House which is just 1 km from India Gate in matter pertaining to pollution from buses operating from Bikaner House.

Sources had been earlier claiming that Bikaner House is not a bus stand but merely a pickup point for the passengers. The order came during the hearing of a PIL filed by environmentalist M C Mehta in 1985 in which Rajasthan also appeared being a party.

The Volvo / Scania buses which are run by Rajasthan Roadways are highly popular among the passengers travelling between Jaipur and Delhi. The buses start from 5:30 am with a bus every hour.
