An impending storm alert resulted in panicked authorities ordering a shutdown of schools after 10 am.

The sudden move inconvenienced several parents who were either on their way to work or budy with their chores.

It was reported that district administration had informed the schools of the MeT department alert, though there is no official confirmation of the same. The school management decided to close the schools early as a precautionary measure.

Soon after 10 am, parents started getting messages on their mobiles informing them about the closure of schools due to bad weather conditions.

The working parents were the most troubled of the lot. They had barely reached the office and thereafter got the message to pick up the child. Their predicament didn’t end at that. The school transport arranged by parents on a personal basis was not available as their original schedule was to arrive at 12:30 pm which is ususal time of closure of schools these days.

“I called up the autowallah to pick up the kids from school as it closed early. He said he was with passengers and would go once he dropped them off,” claimed a working mom in Malviya nagar. “Eventually I had to go myself,” he said.

In several families, the grandparents had to rush to school after the parents informed them to pick the kids as they were busy in office and were not able to come on time.

“My son and daughter-in -law are working professionals. My daughter-in-law asked if I could pick up my granddaughter since they both could not come from office early morning,” said M K Singh a retired bank employee in Sanganer.

All this happened simply because neither the administration nor the school had been preemptive about closing the schools early.

The bell went off early at the Mahaveer Public School as well

RELIEF AND PAIN

  • Parents who were asked to pick their wards were caught unawares and had very little time on hands to arrange transport for their kids.

  • The forecast for Tuesday warned of dust storm around noon which led to panicked schools ordering a shutdown.

  • Most parents either had to leave their workplace or arrange for alternate means of transport to fetch their kids from schools
