STF moves in as Chomu still tense, 2 more held

Two days after members of minority community beat few locals from Chomu, which followed agitation by locals and resulted in the imposition of prohibitory orders, the tension was in the air on Tuesday too. Although no ill incident occurred as the cops were vigilant in order to maintain law and order, a tensed calmness prevailed in the area. Meanwhile, the cops arrested two more men on Tuesday, taking the total arrests to four in the matter.

Traders observed a “bandh” on Tuesday also as they kept their shops closed for the day’s business. “On Tuesday, two men - identified as Jeevan Khan and Sher Jaan - were arrested. Prior to this, a minor was detained while another person -Shadab - was also arrested,” officials said.

Meanwhile, the search for other accused in the matter is being conducted. “The CCTV footage is being studied carefully to identify all the accused in the matter. Some have been identified and are being searched. Meanwhile, STF was also deployed in the area on Tuesday to avert ill occurrence and smooth functioning by police in routine law and order,” officials said.

Meanwhile, a representation of locals met with the ACP Chomu Dinesh Sharma on Tuesday afternoon and handed over a memorandum. “The memorandum was given against the misbehaviour met out to the woman, for breaking peace in the area and the loot of seventy thousand rupees and valuables during the ruckus while demanding the quick arrest of the accused in the matter. Local MLA Ramlal Sharma also met with the DCP West Ashok Gupta regarding the issue demanding action against the accused,” officials said. Sources reveal that the markets might open tomorrow, however, the deployment of forces will continue for the next few days.
