While the Modi government ‘booted’ Additional Director General Indu Bhushan, a Rajasthan cadre IPS of 1989 batch, the central government has rewarded an ex Rajasthan Cadre IAS officer, also named Indu Bhushan. The 1983 batch IAS officer, who took voluntary retirement in 1997, has been called back by Modi government to helm the ambitious health project - Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Mission (ABNHPM) as its CEO. He is currently Director General of East Asia Department, Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines. He has been appointed as CEO on the post for a period of two years

Before taking voluntary retirement, this former IAS of Rajasthan cadre is working with Asian Development Bank (ADB) since 1997, first as a Director and later elevated to Director General. Indu Bhushan, during his stint in Rajasthan as IAS officer between 1983 and 1992, has various posts including Deputy Secretary in Mines and Agriculture departments.

A doctorate in Economics and also a Master of health Sciences from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Indu Bhushan first joined the World Bank (1994-96) before moving to  ADB. At ADB, he coordinates the management of ADB’s strategy and policy development work and develops and maintains institution wide policy papers; assists. Management in resource. Now he has been tasked to chariot the Ayushman Mission under the Union Health Ministry where Sudhansh Pant, again a 1991 batch officer of Rajasthan cadre, is serving as the Joint Secretary.  The mission which was approved officially in a cabinet meeting is claimed to be one of the biggest healthcare schemes. The scheme has the benefit cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year to take care of secondary and tertiary procedures.

It aims to target over 10 crore families belonging to poor and vulnerable population based on the 2011 Socio-Economic and Caste Census database.

Task In ADB

  • Indu Bhushan assists Management in resource mobilization especially in the context of the global crisis, coordinates ADB’s relationship and partnerships with other multilateral development banks and bilateral agencies at the institutional level.
  • He serves as focal point for ADB’s Innovation & Efficiency Initiative.
