Deaf-mute people are special in their own way and Suman Bhambhu, from Dehri village of Nagaur district, has proven it right by winning a Silver medal in the World Deaf-mute Chess. She has not only made the country proud but has also become an inspiration for others like her. But, Suman claims that the government does not support the deaf-mute international players as much as the others.

Despite lack of basic facilities in the village, Suman has won four medals for the country in chess. Recently, the bright girl has won a Silver medal in the women’s category of the 5th International Chess Championship for deaf-mute, held at Manchester in England from July 6 to 16. Suman’s sister Seema said that the family is not happy with the government as it is not concerned about Suman’s achievements in the international arena.

The Secretary of Nutan Prabhat, an organisation working for deaf-mute children in Nagaur, Lalit Vyas said that the government gives several packages to the general players and they also receive financial aid, but the deaf-mute are not being given the same privileges despite winning equal medals for the country. Also, the government has kept the deaf-mute children in the category of mentally ill people, whereas the game of chess cannot be played by the mental patients.

Speaking on Suman’s achievements, her brother Devi Lal said that each resident of the village is happy for her. But the government has not provided her what the other general players get on winning medals for the country like prizes, financial help and job. This dual policy of the government is incorrect, they should provide deaf-mute people with similar honour for motivating them to do well for their country.

Politics has always been an integral part of sports in India and the governments have always treated these deaf-mute players differently. These players should be recognized, honoured and motivated for their hard work and determination as they have the capability to make the country proud in the whole word without speaking a single word.
