Celebrated for its magnificent architecture globally, Amber Fort will soon be developed as an iconic tourist site by the Modi government. The centre government has shortlisted the ancient monument in the list of 17 sites under its Iconic Tourist Sites Development Project.
The union tourism minister shall be developing the site in a holistic manner with focus on issues concerning connectivity to the destination, better facilities, experience for the tourists at the site, skill development, involvement of local community, promotion and branding and by bringing in private investment, informed union state tourism minister (independent) KJ Alphons, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The monuments that have been shortlisted for development under the project fall under the jurisdiction of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and State Archaeology Departments. “The ministry will carry out interventions at these monuments in collaboration with the ASI and state government and all development plans will have elements of universal accessibility, cleanliness at the monuments, use of Green Technology and enhanced security for the tourists,” read the reply.
Amber Fort was built with red sandstone and white sandstone. The Fort reflects ancient Indian architecture. It is known for its blend of Rajput and Hindu style of architecture and blend of Hindu and Muslim style of ornamentation. The carvings on the ceiling and the walls make the fort distinct. There are a series of gates in the fort and each one has a unique structure and architectural element; Diwan-e-Aam, Sukh Mandir, Sheesh Mahal attract the tourists globally.
The other sites to be developed under the project are Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, Ajanta and Ellora in Maharastra ; Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort and Qutub Minar in New Delhi; Colva beach in Goa,Somnath and Dholavira in Gujarat; Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, Hampi in Karnataka, Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, Kaziranga in Assam, Kumarakom in Kerala, Mahabodhi in Bihar.
