In a new case, three men - impersonating as police officers - targeted an elderly woman and took her gold jewellery and before the woman could know she has been duped miscreants fled from the spot.
The victim Gurumala Jain, a resident of Radha Vihar area near Swez farm under Mahesh Nagar police station, early in the morning was heading towards a temple near her house. The moment she stepped out of her house she was stopped by two men, claiming to be police officers asked her to stand aside. Taking the men as real cops, the woman followed their orders, officials said.
The third accomplice asked her to remove gold jewellery she was wearing. “The man told the women that several incidents of theft have been reported in which elderly women were targeted. While this conversation was going on with the woman, a biker appeared on the scene. Narrating the same story the fake cop took the gold chain from the man who surprisingly handed over his chain to them,” officials said.
On seeing the youth handing over his chain, the woman also took out her jewellery and handed over to the miscreants. “The woman opened her purse to keep the jewellery and the men wrapped the jewellery in a paper and handed it to her and left the spot. However after reaching her home when the woman checked she found that the gold bangles had been exchanged with plastic bangles.
The woman then understood the entire scenario and approached the police. CCTV footage from nearby areas have been recovered based on which the miscreants are being identified” officials said.
