Even though slain gangster Anand Pal Singh had fled from police custody and was dodging the cops on his tail, the terror of the Khakhi had still not deterred him to give up crime. The gangster, it has now surfaced, was planning to conduct a kidnapping of a business man - a relative of minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet — Arun Jaitley.
Anand Pal was to conduct the kidnapping and hand over the person to a gang from Punjab for a whopping five crore rupees.
Details about Anand Pal's plans came to light after the Bhadra police of Hanumangarh district cracked and arrested some criminals in connection with a loot of Rs 75.5 lakh from a man who was headed to deposit them in a bank branch at Bhadra. The loot had occurred at gunpoint during the demonetization period late last year.
There were six locals from Bhadra, Gogamedi and nearby areas. A couple of them were from Haryana. Anand Pal and his brothers, Rupindar Singh alias Vicky and Manjeet Singh alias Gattu, and two other men - Tejpal and Balbir - had planned the loot while also taking refuge in the farms and houses of the locals. When the local men who facilitated their stay were arrested, they informed during questioning that Anandpal and the gang was planning to kidnap an industrialist - a close relative of Minister Arun Jaitley. Unconfirmed reports said the relative could be Jaitley's nephew.
The information was then passed on to the Special Operations Group and Haryana Police as well. It was then learnt that Anand Pal was in touch with another gang who had approached him for the job. Pal was to chart the modus operandi and hand over the man after kidnapping ransom of five crore rupees was delivered. It was only after the SOG arrested Rupinder and Manjeet that it came to light that the duo had gone to Sirsa only to check on the vehicles and other assets that were to be used for the kidnapping. However, they were arrested by SOG before they could get to act on their plan.
"The information came to light when the six locals associated with the loot were arrested who informed Anandpal and his brothers were planning to kidnap a relative of Arun Jaitley" Kishan Singh, SHO, Bhadra Police Station told DNA.
