The Chinese say we’re living in interesting times but in Rajasthan, we’re living in strange times. At a time when many students of Rajasthan University got shock of their life when marksheets released online showed that they have obtained ‘zero’ total marks, one power consumer got a bigger jolt when he received an SMS from Jaipur Discom, saying that his electricity bill for the month of July is around Rs 69 lakh (Rs 69,42,238 to be exact).

Discom was supposed to give relief to the consumers from power woes. But the complaints about inflated bills are getting bigger by the day. Among the Jaipur Discom consumers, inflated bills and other bill-related issues get the top billing. On Monday, Jaipur Discom managing director RG Gupta received 111 grievances of which 14 were related to billing issues.

On previous occasions too, consumers have complained of inflated bills. Not only this, the billing issue has been coming up in the public grievance meetings of Gupta as a consumer went to social media platform recently to inform JVVNL that he had received SMS, saying that bill for July is Rs 69,42,238.

Apart from this issue, a large number of consumers who met the discom managing director on Monday complained about the delay in issuance of electricity connection. Complaints relating to the burning of transformers are also coming in from the consumers even though discom has been asked to ensure that steps are taken to prevent this.

Apart from other complaints, a consumer has complained about deduction of extra money while making a bill payment through credit card.

The consumer made this complaint on social media forum, saying that he paid Rs 3,450 but Rs 3,459.85 was deducted from his account. The consumer said that if the amount is less than Rs 5,000 then there should not be any charge. Out of these 111 complaints received on Monday, 49 were related to grievances of the employees of discom.
