In a bid to ensure that their needs are fulfilled, farmers of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan will make an attempt to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and give him a list of their demands. PM Modi is slated to visit Jhunjhunu on Thursday for expansion of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme and to launch the National Nutrition Mission.

The farmers of Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Bikaner, under the banner of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), will be reaching Jhunjhunu hoping to meet the PM. They would seek complete loan waiver for all farmers (including those who have taken loans from banks other than cooperative banks) as well as MSP for crops.  Speaking to DNA, Amraram, National President of AIKS, said,“We had written to the Prime Minister’s office seeking his audience.

There was an acknowledgment of our letter from the PMO but we have not yet got any confirmation that he will meet us.” “Nevertheless, we will attempt meet him. He is coming to our home ground and what better time than this to appraise him about the ground situation of farmers of Rajasthan,” added Amramam. “We have a memorandum of demands to give to him and will try our best to meet him. In case we cannot meet him, we will release our memorandum to the public through media,” he said.

The AIKS has been demanding complete loan waiver for farmers across the state. Commenting on the CM’s announcement of extending loan waiver to all farmers, Amraram said,“The composite announcements will benefit around 28 lakh farmers, but even then many will be left out as the waiver does not include loans taken from commercial banks.”
