With the change in battle tactics, air cavalry or weaponised helicopters are becoming increasingly important in a battlefield. Providing air assault capabilities, weaponised helicopters provide the added advantage to any army of seizing and holding any key territory which has not been fully secured or in situations where the enemy has to be directly engaged behind enemy lines with heavy firepower.

Weaponised helicopters, the new offensive platform on the battle field, are gradually getting inducted into the Indian Army. During the ongoing exercise Vijay Prahar, the strike formations of the Sapta Shakti Command rehearsed offensive manoeuvres. The concept was used for the first time in South Western Command. During the exercise, helicopters operated in tandem with battle tanks on ground to bring a decisive victory.

Equipped with ultra modern sensors and high precision weapons, these birds allow the ground commanders to act decisively, boldly and offensively.

Victory on tomorrow’s battlefield will depend a lot on the combined effort of the offensive punch delivered by the cavalry and troops on ground and the weaponised helicopters.
