A permanent floating fence established between the US-Mexico border might soon be installed on the sandy slopes of the Shahgarh Bulge border of the Jaisalmer district, which is adjacent to Pakistan.

Fencing from Ganganagar to Barmer border of Rajasthan was completed in the nineties, but in the 32km area of Jaisalmer’s Shahagadh bulge, the fences get constantly buried under dunes. For this, temporary fencing to fencing was done by installing pillars, but the experiment was not successful. Storms and tornados of sand in this area pose frequent trouble.
Conditions are so worse that BSF soldiers on the border post are almost lost when they return to the barracks after six hours of duty. If GPS does not work, then he cannot reach his barrack. To fight the problem, in last few years fencing was done after installing pillars, but in vain.
DIG Ravi Gandhi said that in the beginning of this year, the defense parliamentary committee had visited the border. During that time they also visited the Shahgarh bulge area and took note of the problem of fences in the sandy terrain. The committee had suggested the Center to install floating fence like US-Mexico border in the area.
