Even after five years, more than 10,000 candidates who applied for the job of LDC in panchayati raj department are still waiting for appointment letter. The matter has now reached the central government. National SC/ST commission has ordered panchayati raj department to take action on recruitment within 15 days. The commission has also asked to submit report on vacant seats on a complaint filed by one of the candidates Prempal along with few others. The central government has written a letter to principal secretary panchayati raj to act.

In 2013, the Gehlot government had advertised for more than 19,000 posts in the panchayati raj department and 7,867 candidates were given appointment. Thereafter, the BJP government announced 10% bonus marks to give the employees more benefit. But, the freshers opposed this and filed SLP on which the high court reduced bonus marks to half. However, the Supreme Court reversed the judgment and upheld the government’s decision of 10% bonus marks.

The department gave appointment to further 1000 candidates but there are still 10463 candidates waiting for the appointment letter. The department now has to give explanation as to why these appointments got stuck for five years. But, for the candidates there is renewed hope of getting the job.

“SC/ST commission has sought report. It is a confidential report, hence I cannot disclose the content. We will send the report soon,” Navin Mahajan, secretary panchayati raj department, said.

“The future looked bleak for thousands of contract workers because of carelessness of government officials. The central government order has renewed our hopes,” Mag Singh Rajpurohit, State president of Pradesh Jalgrahan Vikas Dal, said.
