Inspector General of Police Hawa Singh Ghumaria appeared before the high court on Thursday with regard to the Samrau murder case where a man was killed on Sunday evening due to rivalry.  The issue hogged the limelight after there was violence following the family’s refusal to take the body until the guilty were punished. 

Ghumaria presented the report and said that the police have registered 18 cases so far.

The judge asked the police to restore peace in the locality and take the matter seriously. The judge added that probe should be done fairly without any political pressure.

The police have been given two weeks till the next hearing. Orders have been given to AAG Shivkumar Vyas to present the report.

After the murder on Sunday, there was a standoff in village Samrau of Lohawat police station area. The family of the deceased and villagers refused to lift the body until the killers were arrested. This charged up the atmosphere. The angry villagers set fire to half a dozen shops and a house that night.  Samrau and Lohawat towns were sealed after the incident.

At the same time, the villagers also put a roadblock on the intersection of the spot. The dead body was lifted on Tuesday after the arrest of the accused and the funeral took place in the midst of tight security.

It is alleged that the deceased was accused of firing in a high court premises to flee from a hardcore criminal. Angry villagers set fire to more than half a dozen shops, vehicles and a house in Samrau and Bhed villages that night. Advocate Bhanwar Singh Tamadiya presented the facts in the high court. 

AICC GS and former CM Ashok Gehlot said that the guilty should be punished and innocent people should not be harassed.

He billed the incident as unfortunate and called for peace. Gehlot, while releasing a statement, said that no person has the right to take the law into his own hands.
