Young chief of the grand old party in Rajasthan infused new life bringing together all those who matter. Congress is now in the reckoning to form the government after assembly elections.
The outcome of by polls in Rajasthan heralds the revival of Congress in the state. And a large part of credit goes to Sachin Pilot, president of the state Congress. The party, which some considered was down and out, is now looking at giving a tough fight to the ruling BJP in the state in the assembly polls to be held in December this year.
Congress wrested two Lok Sabha and one assembly seat in Rajasthan from the ruling BJP in the recently conducted by polls in the state.
The 40-year-old Pilot has really worked hard to revive the Congress party in Rajasthan. Pilot, who completed 4 years in office as president of the Congress in state in January this year, started to strengthen the party at the ground level from day one he assumed office. He started to meet party workers, leaders and others to get their feedback.
He has toured over 4-5 lakh kilometres in the state in the last four years with an aim to boost morale of the party workers which was shaken after the party suffered one of its worst defeats in both the assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
Pilot in an interview once said “It is often said that those who sweat in peacetime don’t bleed in war”. And he firmly believes in that.
It was a big challenge for him to keep party united as it was suffering from infighting and factionalism. He successful tackled it and it reflected from the results, out of 6 assembly by polls held so far after 2013, Congress won in 4 and wrested two Lok Sabha seats from the BJP in recently held by polls.
Pilot, who is far removed from the stereotyped Indian politicians, gives time to party workers, meets them regularly and is easily approachable. His major plus point is out of box thinking which he proved in the recent bypollls.
Pilot along with his team has been successful in raising public interest issues in the state and corner the BJP government on various critical issues like agrarian crisis, giving of schools on PPP mode among other things.
