Congress from the beginning has opposed the bill as it is adverse to democratic values and strikes on media’s rights.
CM Vasundhara Raje should give up obstinacy on the implementation of gag law, the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendments) Bill 2017, and revoke it permanently, demanded Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) chief Sachin Pilot on Friday.
“There is anger against the proposed law across the state, though the government is adamant to bring it as the select committee got an extension to review it, ignoring growing resentment against it from all corners. The way the corruption has increased under political shielding, it is quite evident the CM is trying to protect her ‘close aides’ from the clutches of judiciary while making such gag law,” Pilot said.
On day one of the budget session on Monday, home minister Gulab Chand Kataria, select committee chairperson, had sought the house’s permission to extend the deadline until the first week of the next assembly session, which is likely to be held around the monsoon season (August-September).
Notably, the bill which was introduced in the previous session and is currently under consideration proposes to make it mandatory for judicial magistrates to seek government approval before ordering probes against judges, magistrates and public servants. The bill proposes a jail term of up to two years for media persons who disclose names of officials against whom government sanction is pending.

The proposed bill is aimed at shielding corrupts while playing with rights given to democratic institutions. The CM give up her adamant attitude and quash the proposed bill respecting sentiments of the common man,” said Pilot.
RPCC Chief also said that BJP’s defeat in recent bypolls forced the government to retreat from its decision of privatisation of government schools under PPP mode.
