Congress sees a bright chance to return in Jodhpur constituency, the home town of three time CM Ashok Gehlot, riding high on its performance during Assembly elections. While, the BJP is confident to win this prestigious seat of Western Rajasthan cashing in on the image and works carried out by sitting MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who is Union agriculture and farmers affairs minister in Modi government, and future of the party in state politics.

The saffron party received a major setback as it won only two seats while Hanuman Beniwal’s RLTP (Rashtriya Loktantrik Party) managed to win one seat here.
In the Lok Sabha elections due in April-May the grand old party longs to wrest Jodhpur seat and being a home constituency of Gehlot it takes an edge over the BJP. Source said that Congress may bet on Vaibhav Gehlot, son of CM Ashok Gehlot, from the constituency to ensure victory on the seat. Also, Rajesh Gehlot, the CM’s nephew, has also staked claims from the seat.
Blessings of Jodhpur royal family plays an important role in the elections in the seat which was once a princely state.
In 2014 elections the Congress repeated Chandresh Kumari, sister of the erstwhile Jodhpur royal Gaj Singh, but she lost to Gajendra Singh with huge margin.
Gajendra Singh, despite BJP’s poor performance in Assembly elections, emerges as a strong candidate in the coming elections. The BJP is likely to repeat the candidature due to his pro-people image. In the inner circles of the party he is being seen as future of the party. Party made him chairman of BJP election coordination committee.
