Many government institutions and establishments are not following rules of Rajasthan Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules (RMSWMR) 2016 as they are generating huge waste.

After repeated directions by the municipal corporation, these institutions have not installed the solid waste compost machine.

These include the state’s largest government hospital, Sawai Man Singh Hospital and Rajasthan University. The municipal corporation is now contemplating action against these institutions which have failed comply with the rules.

The state government revised the Rajasthan Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules in 2016. Notification of new RMSWM rules was released on April 8, 2016.

Under the new rules, government and non-government establishments, whose area is more than 5000 square metres or generate 100-kilogram garbage daily have to dispose of the waste through compost machine. Under the new rules, hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges, hospitals, private companies, stadiums, hostels and other establishments have been included.

The Municipal Corporation has issued notices to government and non-governmental institutions for installing compost machines last year. After the municipal notice, several private institutions have installed a compost machine. Compost machines have been installed in most of the city’s major hotels and hospitals.

Many government institutions, including SMS Hospital, JK Lone Hospital, Mahila Hospital, Zanana Hospital, SMS Medical College, Rajasthan University and its four constituent colleges, have not yet installed these machines.

The amount of daily municipal waste generated by Rajasthan University and SMS Hospital is quite high. On the top of it, they have not installed the waste disposal system. The municipal corporation is now preparing to take action against these governmental institutions.

It will issue notices again soon. Jaipur Municipal Corporation Chief Health Officer RK Garg said that earlier notices were issued to the Rajasthan University, SMS Hospital. But the compost machines have not been installed so far.
