By the time the current financial year 2018-19 ends, Rajasthan will have more power production capacity installed in its various power plants and solar plants. Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited ( RVUNL) is expecting that commissioning of all supercritical units at Suratgarh and Chhabra will be attained by the end of this financial year which will facilitate additional 2640 MW electricity to the state.

The current installed capacity of RVUNL plants is 5957.35MW. Currently, expenditure of Rs 2647 crore for construction work of two supercritical units of capacity 660 MW each at Suratgarh and two supercritical units of capacity 660 MW each at Chhabra have been installed.

Moreover, these are the good times for the state-run electricity production company. It has also been revealed that RVUNL earned a profit of Rs 505 crore in 2017-18 which is more than what it achieved in 2016-17.

While work is underway to produce power through thermal plants, the work is going on at a good speed at the solar plants in the state and 1500 MW power generation is expected in coming the months from Bhadla solar park in future. Out of this, 750 MW from Bhadla solar park will be available by September. The power generated will be bought by Rajasthan discom while the remaining power will be available by April 2019.

Rajasthan has already become self sufficient in power production. There are no electricity cuts in the state due to insufficient power. However, in case of thermal plants, supply of coal is the most important factor these days.

Few months back due to increased demand, there was subsequent increase in coal demand across the country, and the state power were under stress. As per the last report of May 27, coal stock at Suratgarh, Chhabra, Kawai and Kota power plants was meagre.
