Passengers these days are more likely to sit on the roof of the train while travelling from one place to another and following this trend of the ‘daredevils’ NWR took action on this and arrested 409 people in just one month, in October. While it may seem fun to some, travelling like this is dangerous and is also an offense under Railway Act Under section 156.

Under this act, the offender may get punished with imprisonment of three months or fine of Rs 500 or both. Out of these 409, the penalty of Rs 24,210 was collected from 174 people while 6 have been punished while the inquiry is going on against 229 people.

The tendency is seen more in young people and is more visible whenever there is a competitive exam in Jaipur or at any other place. While returning to the hometowns, the passengers are often found sitting on the roof of the train. Railway officials have appealed to the people that travelling on the roof of the train is dangerous and should be avoided.

Meanwhile, with the electrification work going on in full speed between Jaipur and Delhi and Jaipur and Sawai Madhopur track, it will be become more difficult to sit on the roof the train. The electricity passes through the cable into the engine and the cable passes just above the railway bogies. As such, sitting on the roof of bogies with electricity line passing just above the head is very dangerous.

Currently, the electrification work between Rewari and Delhi is going on at full pace. The work between Rewari and Alwar is already completed. When this work between Rewari and Delhi will be completed, then the route between Delhi and Alwar would be electrified in totality.

Apart from this, railways have also been taking action against the people who are pulling the alarm chain. Taking this seriously, the authorities have arrested 318 people in October month and has collected fine of Rs 90,325 from them.

Notably, on railway platforms, its usually observed that the passengers pull the train if one of their relatives has remained inside the train who had gone to see off the passenger or many times, just to de-board the train at a place where there is no station, passengers resort to pulling the chain. Inside the coach of the train, it’s strictly written about the punishment in case of pulling the alarm chain but many times people ignore it.
