Pop singer Morrissey said it bluntly in his cheeky song, “We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful” and one tends to agree with him as there is always an undercurrent of envy and gossip that exists among friends. But Lay Jain, Karan Agarwal, Navleen Singhal, Aditya Agarwal, Parth Laturiya, Bhaskar Gupta, Arjun Shashank and Yash Gupta have proved him wrong as all eight are good friends and the success in JEE-Advanced, instead of creating heartburns, has made their friendship stronger.

They met in Kota for the first time at the Allen Career Institute and like Rancho, Raju Rastogi and Farhan Qureshi of 3 Idiots became steadfast friends. They not only studied together but also helped each other prepare for this exams.

Kota’s Lay Jain got the 9th rank; Karan Agarwal 21; Navleen Singhal 23, Aditya Agarwal 24; Parth Laturiya 29; Bhaskar Gupta 30; Arjun Shashank 33 and Yash Gupta 42. They missed Bhaskar Gupta and Aditya Agarwal who had left for their homes. Coming from different cities and different backgrounds their friendship will grow stronger further as now they will be together for another four years pursuing their engineering degree. “We want our friendship to stand the tests of time. As friends, we understand each other well and have been successful in using group studies to boost our marks,” said Yash Gupta.

Scan through the list of these eight friends and you will realize that many of them had travelled from big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Rourkela to a small town like Kota to pursue their dream of cracking the JEE-Advanced. Parth said: “It’s not as if we don’t compete with each other. Of course we do. Else we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this. The fact is that we have been trained to maintain a healthy competition amongst each other and that definitely has helped us.”

The fact that this group of eight friends has made it to the top 50 is an achievement for Kota and our institute, said Rajesh Maheshwari, Director, Allen Career Institute.
