About 16 student leaders of Rajasthan University might face the sword of disqualification ahead of the student union elections in RU. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has lodged FIRs at various police stations under the Rajasthan Property Defacement Act against these 16 students, who are defacing the public property by putting up posters.
At the same time, the municipal body has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Rajasthan University and demanded that these students leaders be disqualified from contesting the upcoming student body elections.
JMC Commissioner Mohan Lal Yadav has written a letter on Thursday to the Rajasthan University Vice-Chancellor, Prof RK Kothari for the students’ union election.
JMC’s Additional Commissioner Harsahay Meena and Deputy Commissioner (Garden) RK Mehta met the RU VC on Thursday and handed over the list of 15 students leaders with the commissioner’s letter.
The municipal authorities told the VC that the student leaders are defacing the city by putting posters on the public property while announcing their candidature for various posts in student union elections. They said that action against these students should be taken based on the recommendations of Lyngdoh Committee.
Referring to his previous letter dated May 1 and July 27, JMC commissioner has written that the corporation is trying to keep the city clean and beautiful.
Students are making the city filthy by putting posters, banners and handbills on the walls, bus shelters, traffic signage and other public places to campaign for the polls.
On behalf of JMC, FIRs have been lodged against the student leaders under the Public Property Defacement Act. Even after this, the city is defaced.
The JMC Commissioner asked the VC to ensure that the Act should be implemented by making sure that the students do not deface the public property. If students do not accept this, then action should be taken by declaring them disqualified for the student union election as per Lyngdoh Committee’s recommendations added the officials.
The JMC Commissioner has also written a letter to the Jaipur Police Commissioner Sanjay Agrawal.
In this letter, he has demanded that action against the student leaders who put posters at night should be taken.
