A sloth bear might have been sighted in the forested patch near the Man Sagar lake.
It is a first of its kind sighting that has been recorded in Jaipur. The city, which is home to over three million people, might become a home to a wild animal as well that has not been seen in these parts for well over a century.

Due to the sheer distance between the animal and the photographer, and for second for which the animal could be sighted did not result in a good picture of the animal and thus suspense looms large if the animal was indeed a sloth bear or some other animal.
On Tuesday afternoon, DNA’s photographer Dalbeer Singh Negi accompanied by two other men were roaming near the Man Sagar lake clicking pictures of the birds and plants when they saw an animal moving in front of them. The group stopped and looked hard at an object in front of them. The area had less sunlight due to heavy vegetation and the photographer clicked a picture of the animal to identify it.
The animal slinked away in the undergrowth while the photographers zoomed in on their camera’s screen and realised that the animal could be a sloth bear. The photographers hurriedly moved away from the spot then.
“This incident needs to be investigated properly by forest officials. The photograph is not conclusive enough to identify the animal. The forest officials can visit the spot and try to identify the animal based on the pug marks left on the ground if any. Rest there is no way to identify the animal,” says Tejvir Singh, retired IFS officer.
