With the launch of Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme from Panipat in Haryana on January 15, 2015, the campaign is running in 14 districts of Rajasthan. As PM is going to announce extending BBBP Scheme in the entire country from Jhunjhunu, it is worth mentioning that there has been an increase in the state’s child sex ratio (CSR) by 34 points during last six years in Rajasthan, according to record of state health department’s Pregnancy, Child Tracking and health service management system (PCTS).
According to data the CSR has improved by 34 points to 922 per 1000 boys in 2017-18 from 888 girls per 1000 boys in 2011 census.
The 14 districts in Rajasthan where BBBP is running have shown good improvement in CSR. These districts include Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Sriganganagar, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Sikar and Sawai Madhopur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Tonk.
Experts are in the view that in Rajasthan, health department has played important role in Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao. “Health department by strictly implementing pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique (PCPNDT) Act has improved the CSR in the state,” Rajan chaudhary, Social Activist said. “Since 2009 till date the state PCPNDT cell has conducted 107 decoy operations including in neighbouring states of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh that created fear among people involved in sex determination,” he added.
It is to be mentioned that when PM launched BBBP in January 2015, the decoy operations in Rajasthan was only five, which increased to 25 in 2016, 42 in 2017 and 11 from January 2018 till date.
“Efforts are to cut the supply part that leads to female foeticide,” Navven Jain, Secretary Health and state appropriate authority of PCPNDT told DNA. “nabbing the person involved in gender determination of foetus insures that more daughters can take birth. Apart of it our campaign ‘Daughters Are Precious’ has prepared lakhs of people as Saviors of Daughters. With the awareness program we got succeed to save lakhs of daughters those would have been killed in the womb,” Jain added.
