A 15-year-old girl studying in class X in government girls senior secondary school in Mandana town of Kota district consumed poisonous substance in her hostel room, late on Tuesday evening. It is being alleged that the minor girl took the extreme step after being scolded in school for scoring low marks in Math. The girl died while undergoing treatment at MBS hospital in Kota on Wednesday. The school administration has, however, refuted allegation that she was scolded in school for scoring low marks.
The deceased girl identified as Guddi Meena, a resident of Jodhpura village consumed some poisonous substance in her hotel room on Tuesday evening, said sub inspector at Mandana police station Abdul Kalam. The girl died during treatment at around 12 o’clock on Wednesday noon, he added.
Her family alleged that the girl was in depression after she was scolded for scoring low marks in math and in a fit of depression she took the extreme step of ending her life, the police official said.
Investigation into the allegation by family members of the deceased girl is yet to be initiated, however, no suicide note was recovered from her room, the cop added.
“The girl was not at all scolded for obtaining low marks nor any of the teachers in the school said anything to her and interacted to her personally yesterday,” school principal Devesh Goyal said. The math teacher had asked the students of class X to divide the class into two sections as there are 88 girls in the class—one section was of those who scored good marks and the other of those who obtained below average marks. The deceased girl was put in the section of students obtaining average marks as she had scored only 4 marks. The hostel warden did not inform the school administration about the incident and it was sub inspector of police station who informed of the incident to the school on Wednesday noon after her death, the principal said and raised question on how the girl came in possession of poisonous substance in the hostel.
The deceased girl was staying in government run Meena hostel of Mandana town.
Depression
The family members of the girl alleged that she was in depression after being scolded in school for scoring low marks and in a fit of depression she took the extreme step, the police official said.
