Masked miscreants targeted an ATM located in a village in Jhunjhunu district and using a gas cutter, broke open the cash box and fled with Rs 16.20 lakh kept in the ATM. The miscreants were seen in their actions by a passer-by who raised an alarm hearing which the men fled from the spot. The police suspect that the gang could be from Haryana as well since the state border is near to the spot where the loot occurred.

The incident occurred at Kuhadwas village of Buhana tehsil of the district. “An ATM of a major bank is located in the village and since it is an important position from where villagers regularly conduct their transaction, the amount kept in the ATM is more as compared to other ATMs in the rural areas,” officials said.

The police have learned that the miscreants came by a white car around 3.20 AM. “Few men wearing masks had reached the spot and pulled out a gas cutter from the car. The men started cutting the ATM with the cutter and within fifteen minutes, they were able to break open both the outer shell and the cash box of the ATM. The men were collecting the cash kept in the ATM when they were seen by a passerby who immediately raised an alarm,” officials said.

As the passer-by started shouting, the miscreants became alert and immediately rushed out of the ATM kiosk. “The men then quickly sat in the car and sped away from the spot while the passerby informed the Buhana police about the incident. A police team reached the spot studied the crime scene. The cops even took information about the car from the man and after registering a case, an investigation into the matter has been initiated. It is suspected that any gang from Haryana could also have pulled off the loot as the Haryana border is close to the spot where the loot occurred. However, the investigation into the matter will reveal the gang behind the incident. Further action is being taken,” officials said.
