Rajasthan Roadways buses to ply as staff end strike

The three-day-long strike of Rajasthan Roadways employees ended on Friday night. The agreement between the government and roadways unions was reached after several rounds of meetings between transport minister Yunus Khan, roadways officials and union members was held at Transport Bhawan on Friday.

An agreement was reached after it was agreed that the payment meant for retired employees and dearness allowance for the employees will be given in the month of August out of the Rs150 crore grant which the Roadways will get from the government.

Regarding the other demands, the minister assured the striking union members that the old buses will be replaced in a phased manner. The government also assured for giving the benefits of 7th pay commission and for filling the vacant positions in RSRTC, a committee under the chairmanship of a retired bureaucrat will be formed which will submit its report on August 31.

The union leaders agreed to this and decided to end the strike and resume the bus services.

The hectic round of meeting was in fact going on since Thursday night. The government had given the clear message to roadways to end the strike soon. For this the transport minister Khan himself came into action on Friday and held various rounds of meetings.
