Land acquisition for the remaining pockets in the Southern section of the Ring Road remains pending despite an advance issued to Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The two agencies have entered into a revised memorandum of understanding on June 18 following which a fund of Rs 200 crore was issued by the highways authority.

The JDA officials had claimed that the acquisition will be completed in duration of a month after sanction of funds. The process still remains pending and is likely to get delayed further. Even as the authority had acquired most of the land required for the ring road, land acquisition for construction of flyovers on the route remains pending.

As many of the properties required to be acquired are commercial land, the development authority thus has to shell out a higher price of compensation for these and is required to deposit the compensation in advance. Caught amid a cash crunch the JDA had requested the amount as an advance from NHAI. Work for ring road construction has been assigned by JDA to the NHAI.

A revised MoU was subsequently signed by the two agencies last month.  “This amount shall subsequently be deducted from the amount that NHAI was to pay to JDA over next 10 years. An interest of 8 per cent will also be levied on the advance,” said a JDA officer.

The work on southern ring road corridor is being carried out at a rapid pace by the NHAI. The 47 kilometer route will connect Agra road to Ajmer road and is intended to avoid entry of the passing heavy traffic in city of Jaipur. However, in absence of the flyovers and bridges the ring road will not be able to completely fulfill its acquired targets. The construction of these structures is expected to take a couple of years and even the southern ring road is expected to be complete by September.
