With a view to curb the illegal border crossing activities which is aiding narcotics smuggling from Pakistan into the border areas of Jaisalmer district and also after the recent clashes with Pakistan resulting in heightened security measures, an order banning the telephone code of Pakistan (0092) has been issued at Jaisalmer. The Jaisalmer Collector has issued orders in this regard. Though the move is bound to cause inconvenience to locals from the affected area, the orders have been issued to tighten the security measures of the country.

After the deteriorating situation in Kashmir because of routine ceasefire violations by Pakistan following which an alert was sounded on Rajasthan Border, the district administration has issued the instructions under Section 144 to ban Pakistan’s Code 0092.

In the areas adjacent to the border, the Telephone Code of Pakistan has been banned under section 144, wherein the district administration has alos contacted the mobile network companies by issuing the order. Moreover, special vigilance is being maintained by the police and security agencies over anyone using the 0092 numbers or Pakistani network to make telephone calls. Interestingly, the curfew periods in the border area, which is initiated with sundown, has been extended by two more months.

Sources reveal that the step has been taken so as to avert any security lapse in the country. It has been observed that villagers aiding smugglers and anti-national elements frequently make calls to Pakistan and this step would hamper any slip in intelligence or providing information to the neighboring country.

Some Relief

The move is bound to pose problems to those villagers who have relatives across the border. But, in a major relief, the people wanting to speak to their relatives in Pakistan, will be allowed so by informing administration about it.
