Rajasthan: Onset of winter witnesses upsurge in swine flu cases

With the onset of winter, swine flu has once again reared its head, posing challenge for health department.

The hospitals in the state are witnessing increase in number of patients tested positive for H1N1 virus and  so far eight deaths  have been reported during first week of the January. In the wake of new reported positive cases and deaths due to swine flu, officials at health department are on their toes. 

On Monday, two swine flu patients lost their life, increasing the death toll to 8 this year so far. Last year total 225 deaths were occurred due to swine in the state.  As per official data, one patient died in Nagaur while the other death occurred in Jodhpur where six people lost their life in last six days. 

On Monday 64 more people tested positive for swine flu in 13 districts. With new cases reported, total number of swine flu positive cases in the state during first seven days of the year 2019 has reached 284. Jodhpur is the worst affected area where total 92 people have been tested positive and 7 people have lost their life in last seven days. Jaipur is the second where 25 more people found swine positive on Monday, increasing total number of swine flu patients to 86 in the district last seven days. 

In the wake of increasing swine flu cases, on Monday, additional chief secretary Rohit Kumar Singh held a video conference with all medical officials across the state, including principals of all medical colleges, Chief Medical & Health Officers (CMHO), PMOs and BCMOs. 

“We have started screening and survey in each and every ward of Jodhpur as most of the cases are reported from the district. Teams have been deployed for door-to-door survey and preventive measures. Focus is on spreading awareness among people so that any probable situation of outbreak can be averted,” Dr VK Mathur, director public health said.
