There have been more than 1800 chain pulling (alarm chain pulling) incidences which have stopped the trains in NWR in six-month’s time period not only wasting the time of trains but also putting passengers into discomfort. Now these people have been booked under the railway act and serious action is being taken against them.

It’s a serious issue that in spite of awareness and railway taking care of passengers such incidences have only gone up since last year.

NWR’s senior public relation officer Yashwant Kumar Sharma has informed that between April and September this year 1818 passengers pulled the chain to stop the train without any valid reason.

He informed that in many cases the reason for delays of train has been due to this unwanted chain pulling and said that railways has been conducting a special drive for controlling such acts.

These 1818 people have been arrested under section 141 of railway act which has provision of imprisonment of one year along with fine.

Railways has collected Rs 10,07,183 as fine from these people for this offence but it has also wasted time and energy of railways.

Last year during the same duration of six months from April to September, 912 passengers were caught by railways under same act and fine of Rs 475150 was collected from them.

This shows that there has been a massive rise in the amount of fine collected from the offenders.

Railway officials informed that the alarm chain is for stopping the train in an emergency situation.

Notably, on railway platforms it’s usually observed that the passengers pull the train if one of their relatives has remained inside the train who had gone to see off the passenger or many times just to de-board the train at a place where there is no station, passengers resort to pulling the chain.

Inside the coach of the train it’s strictly written about the punishment in case of pulling the alarm chain but many times people ignore it and do not take it seriously.

The current drive is being conducted by railway security force along with TTE’s and GRP.
