The number of child marriages in 14 districts of Rajasthan has left everyone flabbergasted with the figure mounting to around 40 per cent. To counter the age-old problem, an effective action plan in the form of a public awareness programme for child marriage prevention will be run in the Nagaur district.

The district collector Nagaur, Kumar Pal Gautam, said that despite the effective implementation of the Child Marriage Prevention Act 2006, child marriages are still rampant. Cases of child marriages in the name of economic anarchy and safety issues of girl child are recurrent in the society. According to national statistics, half of the districts of Rajasthan blindly follow the practice of child marriage, due to which the administration of these districts is also under scrutiny.

Under this joint awareness programme by Women and Child Development Department, other departments and the civil society, work will be done to create awareness about child marriage prevention. Under the programme, efforts will be made to impart knowledge on the ill-effects of child marriage and how fatal it is for both the society and the country at large.

Speaking on the matter, the member of Civil Society Virendra Verma said that when there is a guideline given to all the administrative officials including patwari, sarpanch and the district head and still there is a constant increase in child marriages, it raises serious questions on the efforts made by the concerned. The people of the Civil Society believe that as long as the government officials will not follow the instructions and fulfill their respective responsibility, child marriage will keep breaking the whole system. They have also appealed all stakeholders of the society and administration to participate in the Child Marriage Prevention Mission.
