Call it an ordeal or fate, Nanu Devi Meghwal, a widow, has been looking after mentally challanged son, who at times becomes violent and unmanagable.

After her husband died 20 years ago, since then bringing up her three children – one boy and two girls – have come on her shoulders. Working as a labourer she is the only breadwinner.

Nanu Devi, who lives in Sardarpura village of Sadulshahar Gram Panchayat, said that for the past three years her only son Rajkumar has been kept in a room tied with chains.

Speaking about the condition of her son, Nanu Devi said that after one year of Rajkumar’s marriage, his mental condition started worsening. He not only started behaving abnormally but also became violent and smashed everything in his room.

Rajkumar has also been involved in fights with people. Being a mother, Nanu Devi is concerned that he may cause bodily harm to him.

The family’s social life has come to a nought as it can’t go for marriage or other functions as Rajkumar cannot be left on his own in the house. What has filled Nanu Devi’s cup of woes is that Rajkumar’s wife has left him.

Nanu Devi wants her son to get proper treatment but the family does not money for that.

Although Rajkumar’s family is living below the poverty line, it is not getting any benefit of various government schemes because it does not have BPL card.

Despite the administration being aware of the situation, no assistance has been provided to the family till date.

Nanu Devi and her entire family is seeking help from the government so that Rajkumar can be treated and lead a normal life once again.
