The University Grants Commission (UGC) will issue a ‘model syllabus’ of each subject for universities across the country, which will be released next month. Universities will be able to set up their syllabus on the basis of UGC’s model syllabus.

Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar, who was in Jaipur on a one-day visit gave this information. “It has come to my knowledge that many universities in the country have not changed their syllabus for many years. I have instructed the UGC to make a model syllabus, which will be sent to all universities to prepare their syllabus on the basis of it,” HRD minister told DNA. “This model syllabus will not be imposed on universities. Universities can take this syllabus if they wish,” he added.

Regarding the new national education policy, the HRD minister said,“The draft has been prepared, which will be finalised shortly. After which it will be sent to the Prime Minister for the approval.”

The education policy is being prepared for 20 years from the year 2020 to 2040. Javadekar informed about the inclusion of emergency-related courses in the school curriculum. “At present, the academic curriculum includes a small part of the emergency. In our textbooks, there are some chapters and columns on the emergency that will be reviewed,” said Javadekar.

He added, “This information will be given to the youth that how emergency was imposed in the county and what conditions and circumstances were prevailing at that time. By changing the syllabus, the entire story of the emergency will be included. So that students can get the full history of the emergency.”
