Rajasthan High Court has cancelled promotion and seniority of around 40 police inspectors. The government had promoted them in 2005, 2006 and 2007 against vacant posts of 1997-98. Justice V S Siradhana has also quashed civil service appellate tribunal’s order of May 16, 2014. The tribunal had rejected petition by RPS Rajveer Singh and others for being late.

Advocate Tanveer Ahmed told the court that petitioners were promoted from sub inspectors to inspector in 1997. During this period 40 SI could not be promoted. Later, these SI also became circle inspector by taking promotion exams but their seniority was lower than the petitioners.

However, in January 1999, the state government issued circular and changed conditions for promotion. The circular was issued for future but the state government gave these 40 SI’s promotion retrospectively against vacant posts of 1997-98. The petitioners challenged it in the civil service appellate tribunal, which rejected their petitions in 2014, saying that it was filed late.

The petitioners challenged this in the high court, which quashed tribunal’s order.
