Rajasthan High Court has ordered the state government to clarify its position regarding developing the Gol Market at Jawahar Circle and sought the reply on the matter by July 9. A division bench of Chief Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice GR Moolchandani gave this order while hearing the petition filed by Gopal Sharma.

During the hearing, on behalf of the petitioner, the court was informed that the state government had assured the court on May 19, 2012, that they will clarify the situation regarding the construction of the Gol Market. Despite this, no information has been provided by JDA and the state government till date.

It is mentioned in the petition that JDA had written a letter to the state government on January 20, 2010, seeking permission for the construction of Gol Market at Jawahar Circle in Jaipur, based on the lines of Connaught Place in Delhi. The state government had issued a notification for the same on May 7, 2010. The petition also mentions that birds will roam around in the area due to the opening of Chat Bazar in the Gol Market, which will affect the movement of airplanes. Apart from this, developing a market on park’s land is against the provisions of the master plan.

The Gol Market is being planned to be a double-storied building complex throughout the circumference of Jawahar Circle. However, JDA has reasonably restricted the height to just two stories because of its proximity to the international airport.
