Seeing the proposed agitation of Gurjars in Rajasthan, the state government is on alert mode. Taking a lesson from previous agitations, the police administration has started the preparations for this agitation which is proposed from February 8.

This will also be the first agitation in the state by any specific community after Ashok Gehlot came to power in December 2018. On Thursday, the senior officials including Chief secretary DB Gupta and DGP Kapil Garg issued directions related to law and order in the state, Gupta also reviewed the law and order situation.

The Gurjars have called a mahapanchayat on February 8 at Malarna Dungar in Sawai Madhopur and Gurjar leaders have been calling community members to come in large number. The police department has asked the cops of Dausa, Karauli, Bharatpur, Alwar Dholpur, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, Bhilwara, Jaipur to remain on alert.

The discussion was also done regarding the safety of railway track near Sawai Madhopur, and round the clock monitoring of this issue is also being done. Sources informed that for this, coordination will be done with railway police.

It has been planned that a large number of people won’t be allowed to come together near the tracks this time. This has been the usual strategy of Gurjar agitation in the past when they have blocked the railway track by sitting on them. The Gurjars in the state have given the call of agitation, they are raising the slogan of “Abki Baar Aakhri Baar” before the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, attempts are being done for a dialogue with Gurjars in an effort to call off the agitation. Gurjar leader Himmat Singh is also said to have met deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot on Thursday.

Earlier, the Gurjars had given a 20-day ultimatum to the state government to give them a reservation of 5% after the Union government had given 10% reservation to the economically weaker section recently. This 20-day ultimatum is ending on February 8 by evening. Before the assembly elections too, the Gurjars had pressed for their demand of reservation and had also declared to oppose the political yatra of the then chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
