Demanding a five per cent reservation, the Gurjars continued their agitation on the fourth day as well and blocked the national highway, hampering the bus and train services.

Agitators are seated on the train tracks at various places. The agitation, which was confined to the south-eastern part of Rajasthan, spread to the northern parts as well when members of the community from Neem Ka Thana and Kothputli tried to block the Delhi-Jaipur highway.

No violence was, however, recorded on the fourth day while prohibitory orders (Section 144) continued to be in place in Dholpur after Sunday’s clash between agitators and the cops.

The Gurjars blocked National Highway 21 – Agra to Jaipur – and blocked the highway at Sikandra resulting in cancellation of almost a dozen buses. Owing to the movement, cops rushed to the spot and posted additional forces so that they don’t resort to violence.

Meanwhile, a group of men from the Gurjar community tried to block the state highway passing through the Raipur bend at the Neem Ka Thana. However, after talks with administrative officials, the blockade was removed.

Members of the community are conducting peaceful agitation in other parts of the state. At Kothputli, where the community has a huge representation, agitators gathered at the Devnarayan Temple as a mark of protest. On Monday afternoon, news spread that agitators were trying to block the Jaipur – Delhi highway. However, no such development had occurred and the agitators stayed put at the temple only.

To maintain law and order situation in the state, the government has asked for reinforcements from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh government, which have sent seventeen companies. These companies have been deployed in districts like Bharatpur, Tonk, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Dausa where Gurjars are agitating.
