Rajasthan: Govt machinery steps in to contain spread of Zika virus

The attention of the state government machinery which is currently busy with the election preparations after the imposition of model code of conduct has been diverted towards the outbreak of zika virus in state. 

While the department of health and medical professionals are busy dealing with the virus, the administration is keeping an eye on the outbreak of the virus in Jaipur and which is now being reported from other districts.

Chief secretary DB Gupta called a high-level meeting of departments, district administration of Jaipur and the health department to learn about the spread of virus and the procedures being taken up for its containment.

“During the meeting, he issued directions to keep the mosquitos in control to prevent an outbreak scare,” an official said. 

Chief secretary also informed that all the essential medicines are available at the SMS Hospital and all testing facilities are already installed there.

The officials were of the view that since it is a mosquito-borne disease and therefore the surroundings should be tidied up to prevent the mosquitoes from breeding. He said the students can be made aware in the school assemblies about the virus and its spread so they can be safeguarded against the disease.

In the meeting, officials of department of health, medical education, Jaipur collector Siddharth Mahajan, principal of SMS medical college Dr Sudhir Bhandari and others were present.

Currently the district administration is busy with implementation of model code of conduct in the district.  The teams are currently busy finding the places where water is stored and are throwing it so that the mosquitos are not borne and there is no larva activity.

The administration will be taking action under the notifiable disease act offenders will be filed. 

Efforts are also being made to involve the public so that the larva activity inside the homes can be stopped as nagar nigam has already cleaned the places outside in the city.

The additional chief secretary, medical and health department Veenu Gupta had claimed that a micro plan involving personnel of different departments has been put into motion to contain the spread of the disease in Jaipur and to other districts.
