Rajasthan govt is preparing to procure wheat

For wheat, the MSP is Rs 1,840 per quintal which gives a 112.5% return to farmer on the cost of production

After procurement of moong and ground nut, now the state government is preparing to procure wheat in coming months.

The process will start from April while in Kota division it will start from March 15. This was decided in a recent meeting of department of food and civil supplies recently.

The officials have been asked to make an estimate of revolving fund which will be needed to pay the farmers for buying the wheat from them so that the last minute issues related to payment are not there. This will be the time when the Lok Sabha election will be at the door and therefore the government wants that there is no lacuna in procurement of wheat crop in various districts.

The government will be procuring wheat till June 30 and it will be done through NAFED, FCI, RAJFED, Tilam Sangh.

For wheat, the cost of production is Rs 866 per quintal and MSP is Rs 1,840 per quintal which gives a return of 112.5 per cent over cost of production.

Like before the farmers will have to get themselves registered online and will be given date for weighing of the crop thereafter.

The officials have also been asked to ensure the availability of manpower needed for this purpose so that the process of procurement is done without any problem.

The farmers are expecting a good harvest of wheat due to low temperature in various places in the state. 

Meanwhile, the process to procure ground nut has gained speed after the union government extended the deadline for purchase till January 31.

This was done since, till January 3, merely 1.39 lakh metric tonnes of the produce had been bought against the Kharif target of 3.79 lakh metric tonnes. The state government had therefore requested the union government to extend the time of purchase till January 31. The process had began from October 16 and will now end on January 31.

After the buying was started, the work of purchase was not completed due to holidays on Navratra, Ramnavmi, Diwali, Barawafat and Gurunanak Jayanti.

Ready Funds

The officials have been asked to make an estimate of revolving fund to pay the farmers so that the last minute issues relating to payment are not there. With Lok Sabha election around the corner, government wants that there is no lacuna in procurement.
