In one of the rare cases, the BJP has gone from saffron for black. About two years, the BJP government had distributed saffron coloured bicycles to promising girl students. But now, it has opted for black coloured bicycles to 12,000 girl students of 220 departmental hostels, whose hostel is more than 2km from the school.
Previously, the bicycles were distributed by the Education Department to the girls who scored 70% or more marks in the 8th grade.
The department distributed more than 2 lakh 68 thousand bicycles.
Rejecting the allegations of saffronising education, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi said: “BJP is attached to all the colours and the party is against politicising education.”
PCC Vice President Archana Sharma, on the other hand, said, “After the saffronising education, there was a strong undercurrent against the BJP in Rajasthan.
The BJP is now trying to cover its old wounds in the election year. But these wounds are so deep that despite all efforts the BJP cannot hide them.”
Director of Department of Social Justice Dr. Samit Sharma said, “Meetings have been held with the only intention of providing the students with the bicycles at the earliest. Black colour has been selected because this is the most common colour in bicycles. If any other colour would have been selected, the costing would have increased and the students would have to wait longer.”
