Among the projects, which were not completed before assembly elections, is the Ring Road, which is believed to be Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s dream project.

Now, the target has been moved to before the model code of conduct comes into effect for Lok Sabha elections. Under the ring road project, the first phase (Ajmer Road to Tonk Road) is to be completed by February 2019.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) wants the first phase of the project to be launched by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.

This is the reason why the NHAI team has been engaged to complete the work of the first phase of the Ring Road from Ajmer Road to Tonk Road. Although the state government wanted to start this phase of the project before the code of conduct of assembly elections which could not be done.

The deadline to complete the Ring Road project is April 2019. Lok Sabha elections will be held in May next year and the code of conduct for it may come into effect in March. Therefore, the project will be inaugurated either in May or afterwards. In view of this, the first phase can be started in February.

If you look at the ongoing work on the spot, the work between Phaghi Road and Tonk Road and Tonk Road to Ajmer Road is going on very fast rate. The structures of flyovers and underpasses have been constructed. More than 50 per cent construction work of main dedicated corridor of Ring Road has been completed. Road lights installation work has started. Project work from Tonk Road to Ajmer Road is also going at good speed while the second part of the project has not picked up speed.

In the second part of the project between Tonk Road and Agra Road, the land acquisition work is yet to be completed. The JDA has to acquire land for three interchanges ie cloverleaf. But JDA has not acquired the land. The NHAI has given around Rs 200 crore to JDA for land acquisition. According to JDA sources, due to delay and cement-concrete roads, the cost of the project has increased nearly twofold. At the time of Congress government, the cost of the project was estimated at around Rs 800 crore, which has now jumped to more than Rs 1600 crore.

It is worth mentioning that under the project, a 47-kilometre long Ring Road will be constructed outside the city. About 42 underpasses are planned in the project. A flyover on Phaghi Road and two railway overbridges at Jaipur-Delhi and Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur railway crossing will be constructed. They will have two toll booths.

NHAI Team Roped In

This is the reason why NHAI team has been engaged to complete the work of the first phase of the Ring Road from Ajmer Road to Tonk Road. Although the state government wanted to start this phase of the project before the code of conduct of assembly polls which could not be done.
