Joshi’s election as Speaker of Assembly will see new power equation in cricket body
With the Rajasthan Cricket Association president Dr C.P. Joshi elected speaker of the assembly, the state cricketing body enters uncharted waters again.
The senior Congress leader elected as RCA president last year has took charge as the speaker at Rajasthan assembly on Wednesday. It is obvious that Dr Joshi will no longer be able remain head of the RCA, which will further intensify jocking for power by the two main factions.
Although Joshi has not said anything about stepping down from the RCA president, the hustle and bustle has already started in the cricket corridors.
“I am holding a constitutional position and will act according to its expectations,” said Dr Joshi,
Meanwhile, anticipation of his resignation from the RCA president changes the political equilibrium at the cricket association. In absence of the president, the association secretary Rajendra Singh Nandu from the rival camp of Joshi is set to gain additional authority. Those from the Joshi camp though wish to postpone the situation for some time.
“There is no immediate need for his resignation, it will not be against the RCA constitution if he continues as president,” says a RCA executive member.
Dr Joshi has played an eventful innings at the RCA management. Elected as RCA president, Joshi faced persistence resistance from rival group members elected as secretary and treasurer of the association.
Even as the treasurer subsequently got replaced, the secretary had continued to oppose every move from Dr Joshi’s office.
Rivals of CP Joshi at RCA have for long wished for mid term elections, an election for the president thus arrives an opportunity. As face of the rival camp, RS Nandu had claimed support from majority of the district associations. However, the return of Congress government it is being said the next president of the RCA will be favourite of Dr Joshi.
As expected, with new government is at the helm, the Lalit Modi faction is in the wait and watch mode. The Modi supporters who created hurdles at every step of Dr Joshi during his tenure will need realign their priorities
House In Order
It has nearly been a month that the RCA executive committee has been restored to order after an appellate authority quashed the cooperative registrars order to dissolve the committee. The order followed complaints from opponents who had obstructed to every move by Joshi camp since he got elected as RCA president. Joshi was able to get his favourites appointed on most offices at RCA except on crucial seats of secretary and treasurer.
