Since Navratri festivities were observed and owing to the upcoming elections as well, the deployment of cops has been increased in public areas and especially in major towns and cities of the state.
“Every year during this time, we increase the police force on the ground. Due to several political issues, internal security problems and even external security-related issues, there is a constant threat that some banned terror outfit or some terrorist might carry out an act that can cause harm to the people. During festival time, people come out of their houses and celebrate the occasion and thus places with high footfall automatically become a target of such forces. It is for this purpose that we initiate our force and post more cops on the ground,” highly placed sources informed.
Interestingly, sources reveal that public places like bus stand, railway stations, markets, and cultural gatherings are places where vigilance needs to be increased. “Serial blasts rocked Jaipur in 2008 and thus there is always that threat of terrorists planning such a strike again. Thus we have to be extra vigilant and appropriately conduct the management in such times,” sources said.
CCTV cameras, deployment of additional forces in crowded spots, routine checks of inns, small hotels and dharamshalas, development of ground intel, coordination over intel with the central intelligence agencies are a host of work that the police carries out to make sure that the people are safe.
“In addition to our men in uniform, we deploy cops in general clothes also so that they can mix in with the crowd easily. This gives us the advantage to easily filter and find if any person’s movements are suspicious, which in presence of cops in uniform they would behave in a totally different manner. Live CCTV footage is also continuously checked. More vigilant eyes mean more security,” officials said.
