The number of voters in the state has increased by 70 lakh since 2013 and the state Congress is suspicious of the steep rise. PCC chief Sachin Pilot and AICC legal cell chief Vivek Tankha on Wednesday alleged of nearly 42 lakh fake voter entries in the electoral roll.

“There are several voters who have got themselves registered over 100 times in the same constituency with the same name, and details of multiple entries create suspicion,” said Pilot.

According to Congress, the rise in voters’  number between 2013-2018 is much above than the average rise in previous years and even higher than the population growth rate. Congress has been claiming that there have been fake entries in the voter list while original voters have been dropped in several cases. A delegation of senior party leaders sumbitted a memorandum at the election commission on Tuesday expressing their concern on ‘duplicate entries’.

“It would be imperative for the Commission to intervene and ensure preparation of a sanitisied final electoral roll in view of the inconsistencies highlighted,” read the memorandum addressed to chief election commissioner. Even as the election commission is yet to release any official response on the allegations of Congress, the party has been building political front on the issue. Congress leaders sighted that the situation in Rajasthan is similar to the one previously sighted in MP.
